TESDA launches training programs for OFWs in NCR
TAGUIG CITY – More Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the National Capital Region (NCR), who have lost their jobs abroad during the pandemic, are expected to benefit from free skills training being offered by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
During the virtual training induction for Contact Center Services NC II at TESDA-Quezon City District Office 8:00 AM on Wednesday, TESDA Secretary Isidro Lapeña reiterated the agency’s commitment on helping the unfortunate OFWs to recover.
“Included in our ‘Oplan TESDA Abot Lahat: TVET towards the New Normal’ is to integrate and mainstream our returning OFWS here in the country through reskilling or upskilling,” said Lapeña in his message via Zoom Meeting.
Contact Center Services NC II teaches learners how to interact with customers to provide information about products and services.
It also covers handling of customer’s complaints, inbound customer service, order taking and inquiry response handling, and outbound telemarketing.
When the pandemic started, the TESDA chief has been actively consulting with OFWs to know their needs and concerns which resulted in “TESDA Abot Lahat ang OFWs”, the agency’s flagship program focusing on helping the OFWs and their dependents.
Meanwhile, TESDA-CAMANAVA District Office in Navotas City also launched on the same day the Contact Tracing Level II Training Program which prioritizes the OFWs.
TESDA-NCR Regional Director Florencio Sunico shared that TESDA-CAMANAVA has already contacted more than 2,000 OFWs as possible trainees for the next batches of the Contact Tracing Level II Online Training.
Lapeña added, “We are expecting that this will help fill in the 80,000 contract tracers in the country needed by the government in its effort for the expanded contact tracing.”
OFWs who are interested to avail Contact Tracing Level II Training Program will be trained at TESDA-Navotas Vocational Training and Assessment Institute (TNTI) which is just adjacent to the TESDA-CAMANAVA District Office.
TNTI is the second TESDA Training Institution to launch Contact Tracing Level II Training Program in the country after the MuntiParLasTaPat District Training and Assessment Center.
